Managing DNS records yourself
For domains bought through us you can set the DNS records yourself in the portal
— under «Domain», at the domain’s entry. You mainly need this for mail: we don’t
offer mailboxes, so the MX, SPF and DKIM of your mail provider belong here.
Two records are locked, because your website hangs on them.
What you can set
MX, TXT, SRV, CAA and further records on subdomains of your own. So
everything a mail provider, a domain verification or a service asks of you.
What is locked, and why
The record for the domain itself and the one for www carry your website.
Whoever changes them takes their own page off the network — and often only
notices when somebody phones. So the portal shows them but doesn’t let you edit
them. If you really want the domain somewhere else, the route is a
name server change.
Several records of the same type
Mail often needs two or three MX records. They sit together as a group and are
saved as a group — enter all of them, including the ones that don’t change.
Whoever changes a single one and leaves the others out has only one afterwards.
If the domain doesn’t run through us
If your domain is at another provider, its zone is there and our editor would have no effect. Then you enter everything there. The same applies after you have changed the name servers.
