Handing a website over to another account

Built a website for someone and want to give it to them now? That works on every plan, including the free plan. The website moves with everything that belongs to it: files, versions, address, statistics and data area.

How it works

1. Open the website. In the overview, next to the settings, you’ll find the “Hand over website” card. Click “Hand over to someone”.
2. Enter the email address of the new owner, confirm with your password and click “Offer handover”.
3. They get a link that’s valid for 14 days. If they don’t have an account yet, they create one. They then see what they’re taking over, pick the right account if they have several, and accept. They can also decline.

Until they accept, nothing changes for you. You can withdraw the offer at any time. Once they’ve accepted, you’ll get an email. From then on your team members no longer see the website.

What happens to the plan

If the website has no paid plan, it counts as a free website in the new account. If there’s no room left there, they can only accept once a slot is free.

A paid plan runs until the end of the period you paid for and then won’t renew on your card. The new owner books their own plan, otherwise the website carries on in the free plan.

Domains

A domain you brought along moves with the website. If a domain you bought from us is attached to the website, the handover can’t be started yet, because the holder at the registrar changes too. Drop us a line in that case and we’ll do it together.

Who can do this

Only the account owner. A team member can work on the website but not give it away.
