The free plan and the badge

On the free plan your website runs straight away and at no cost under an address on freesite.space, with a small badge at the edge of the page. It is deliberately not intended for search engines while it does. With a paid plan the badge goes, the address moves to madsite.ch and the website becomes findable — or you connect your own domain right away.

Why the badge can’t be removed

It is the price of the free plan. It hangs on the entry in our directory, not on your files, so it can’t be deleted out of the HTML — but it disappears the second you pay, without you having to publish again.

What «not findable» means

A free website asks search engines not to index it. That is not a lock but a request, and all the big ones respect it. Anyone building a website for customers doesn’t want that anyway — and gets the opposite on a paid plan.

Switching

The switch is a move: the address goes over to the other domain and the old one redirects. Your content and your versions stay as they are.

Your address is yours on both domains: whoever has name.freesite.space also has name.madsite.ch — nobody else gets it. Only for websites from before October 2026 can it happen that the same name on madsite.ch already belongs to another website. Then, after you pay, your website stays at its current address for the time being, and the overview tells you to choose a new one — under «Settings», with a free suggestion. The current address then redirects to the new one, and this doesn’t count towards the limit on address changes.
