Changing your domain’s name servers

Your domain is yours, even if you bought it through us. You can switch its name servers to your own at any time in the portal — in the «Domain» tab, at the domain’s entry. After that the DNS zone sits there, and our editor has no effect any more. For your website to keep running with us, the same records have to be in the new zone; the portal shows them to you when you switch, and you should create them there beforehand.

The order you only get wrong once

First create the records in the new zone, then switch the name servers. The other way round, your website is unreachable for the whole duration of the switch — and how long that takes isn’t up to you but to the validity period that applied until then.

At least two

We only accept two name servers or more. A typo in one name server doesn’t just take the website off the network but the whole domain — mail included. Two is the usual minimum and a net for the case where one fails.

Going back works too

The zone with us stays in place when you switch. If you switch the name servers back later, you find your records waiting.
