Connecting ChatGPT
In ChatGPT the link is called an «app» or «connector», and it needs a switch you have to flip first: developer mode. A second peculiarity: the connection is set up in the browser. The desktop app does not offer the route — but once the connection exists, you can use it there too. It belongs to the account, not to the device.
Step by step
- Sign in at chatgpt.com in a browser. Not in the app — the next step is missing there.
- Switch developer mode on: in the settings under «Security and login». In organisation accounts (Business, Enterprise, Edu) it sits under «Apps» → «Advanced settings» instead, and an administrator has to have allowed it for you first.
- Create a new app and enter the address of our endpoint. You will find it in your account under «AI assistants».
- ChatGPT sends you to MADLAB. Sign in and confirm what may be accessed.
- Switch the connection on in the conversation and off you go.
What your plan allows
According to OpenAI, developer mode is available on the Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu plans — on the web. ChatGPT's free plan does not offer it. We have been through the connection with a Pro account: set up in the browser, then used in the desktop client.
On a phone it does not work. ChatGPT's mobile apps do not support this kind of connection, neither for setting it up nor for using it.
Every change is confirmed one at a time
Before running a tool that changes something, ChatGPT asks you. You see what would be sent and you approve it. That is intended: a model that publishes without asking will eventually publish something you did not want.
ChatGPT offers to remember the approval for a tool within a conversation. For reading and checking, that is convenient. For publishing we advise against it — that is the one step that becomes visible to the outside world.
«Deep research» can do less
If you start a deep research run, ChatGPT uses only two of our tools: searching and reading. Building, publishing or rolling back is not possible there, even with the connection in place. For everything else, have an ordinary conversation.
Disconnecting again
In ChatGPT you remove the app in the settings. The access itself you withdraw with us, under «AI assistants» in your account — that takes effect immediately and is the safe route.
How current this is
Checked on 30.09.2026 against OpenAI's own documentation. OpenAI has changed the requirements for this mode once already since introducing it. If you cannot find a menu entry where it says here, write to us — it means this article is out of date.
